Green Gym USA

Green Gym is a tested and successful program from the United Kingdom that provides the opportunity for individuals to engage in physical activity by doing predominantly outdoor environmentally based efforts that contribute to the well-being of their communities (e.g., planting/tending gardens, building/maintaining trails and walkways).

Green Gym is offered by communities in the United Kingdom, and now in Australia, as an alternative for individuals unlikely to engage in more traditional forms of physical activity such as joining a gym. In addition to its physical activity-related benefits, Green Gym provides numerous other proven benefits to participants, such as meaningful forms of social and civic engagement.

Through the International Association for Indigenous Aging (IA2) and the Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement, we are working with BTCV* — the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers — the creators of Green Gym, to establish the program in the United States. We are seeking active partners to test the Green Gym model in several communities in the U.S.
