NATIONAL CONSUMER PROTECTION TECHNICAL RESOURCE CENTER:

As part of the team for the National Consumer Protection Technical Resource Center (the Administration on Aging-funded national support center for states’ SMP program aka Senior Medicare Patrols Program), Health Benefits ABCs developed a Volunteer Training Manual and created Fact Sheets (e.g., Medicare Fraud, Medicare Advantage Plans). Contract period: 2008-2010.

  •  “SMP Foundations Training: Volunteer Manual,” prepared for the National Consumer Protection Technical Resource Center, by Health Benefits ABCs, August, 2009. 
    This manual was made possible by a grant from the Administration on Aging (AoA), Department of Health and Human Services and was prepared by the National Consumer Protection Technical Resource Center for the SMPs (The Center). The contents were developed collaboratively by AoA and The Center, in consultation with SMP Stakeholders. The Center subcontracted with consulting firm Health Benefits ABCs (HBABCs) for the development of Volunteer Training Manual content (see links below).

MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF AGING:

Health Benefits ABCs developed and delivered training for Maryland's Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program. Contract period: 2009-2010.

MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF AGING:

Health Benefits ABCs developed and delivered a training curriculum on long-term care for Maryland's SHIP (State Health Insurance Program) and for other aging network personnel. Completed in June 2005.

CENTER FOR MEDICARE EDUCATION:

Health Benefits ABCs designed and executed the Housing-Based Medicare Education Project for the Center for Medicare Education at the Institute for the Future of Aging Services, American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. This multi-year project consisted of establishing and managing a series of pilot projects (e.g., Atlanta, GA, Cleveland, OH, San Antonio, TX, Cook County, IL) to test different approaches to conceiving and conducting Medicare education for professional and para-professional staff of a variety of residential settings for seniors. In addition, an innovative Internet-based interactive training curriculum using audio and visual content was developed and successfully tested in conjunction with a radio station. Other responsibilities included managing and staffing a national steering committee, project evaluation, and production of reports and presentations throughout the three-year life of the project.
